Hello

Grace Darko is a Bronx-born, Providence-based vocalist whose work lives at the intersection of jazz, soul, and diasporic storytelling.

A 2026 Motif Rhode Island Music Award nominee for both Favorite Jazz Act and Favorite R&B / Soul Act, Grace is recognized for honoring tradition while creating contemporary, emotionally resonant performance experiences.

Rooted in Rhode Island’s Creative Capital, she performs across festivals, public stages, and intimate venues throughout the region.

Jazz and R&B/Soul are foundational Black American art forms — born from resistance, improvisation, innovation, and community care. Grace approaches this lineage with intention, blending warmth, rhythmic depth, and lyrical clarity in both standards and original work.

Her performances invite audiences into spaces that feel intimate yet expansive — where every note carries purpose.

My Story

Music is how I make sense of the world.

Growing up in the Bronx and shaped by my Ghanaian and Togolese heritage, I learned early that music is more than performance — it is archive, memory, and bridge.

My work is guided by Sankofa — the Akan principle meaning “go back and get it.” For me, that means honoring the Black American musical traditions that shaped jazz and soul, while recognizing the broader diasporic currents that connect past and present.

These art forms carry resistance, joy, grief, improvisation, and care. They hold communities together.

Whether on a festival stage or in an intimate venue, I believe music is community-based care in action — a space where people can gather, remember, and imagine forward together.

Thank you for being here. I’m grateful to create alongside the musicians, venues, and communities that make this work possible.
